In a stunning upset, Bong Joon Ho’s black comedy “Parasite” almost swept the 92nd Academy Awards on Sunday night, making history along the way.

 

“Parasite” became the first foreign-language film to win best picture. Its victories in the international feature film, director and original screenplay categories were also a first for a South Korean movie. The film only lost in two categories: film editing and production design. 

 

Meanwhile, Renée Zellweger (“Judy”), Joaquin Phoenix (“Joker”), Laura Dern (“Marriage Story”) and Brad Pitt (“Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood”) continued their awards season dominance with their acting wins. Mendes’ war drama “1917,” which was expected to rule the night following its 10 nods and stellar awards season, only took home three prizes in technical categories. “The Irishman” was snubbed entirely, despite its 10 nominations.
